Learn To Use Your Sewing Machine Workshop


A 3hr workshop designed for complete beginners to show them how to confidently and competently use a sewing machine. All the basic machine functions are covered as are the correct techniques to use the machine and handle fabric.

Got a new sewing machine for Christmas or have you made a resolution to start sewing (again) this year? Well this is the course for you then.

What You Will Learn:

Learn how to confidently use your sewing machine with this basics 3 hour workshop, including:

  • How to set up and thread a sewing machine
  • Getting to grips with stitching – tips for straight lines, curves and corners
  • Different stitch types: straight, zig-zag, button-holing
  • What your feet attachments do and the projects you will need them on
  • How to check sewing tension and adjusting this
  • Identifying common problems with your sewing machine and fixing them
  • Tips on getting into sewing – easy project ideas, essential tools and how to choose a sewing machine

What To Bring With You:

  • Sewing kit with good sharp dressmaking scissors, sewing threads (contrast colour to white), pins
  • Plain white, non-stretch fabric, preferably cotton (can be an old duvet cover or sheet)
  • Your sewing machine, power cable & foot pedal as well as instruction manual (please make sure your machine is in good working order before you bring it). If you don’t own a sewing machine, we have lovely Janome 3300 sewing machines which you can hire to use for this session. Please book these when booking your workshop place.
